Skye Blue Photography bio picture

Welcome to my blogsite. My name is Skye. I am a custom Portrait Photographer, based in Camden, NSW. Beginning two years ago, I took my love and passion of Photography and made it into something to share with others. Throughout the two years I have fallen in love with relaxed family portraits, babies and the beauty of pregnancy. This year I am taking the wedding industry by the horns. Imagine a life without photographs. Photography IS and ALWAYS will be a timeless way of creating memories that last, telling your story, whatever it may be. An engagement, expecting a baby, the arrival of a baby, or your wedding day. YOUR story is important and needs to be told, and remembered. Let me capture this for you.

My Story? I live with my daughter, who is three and full of life. I love to cook. I am forever planning meals, any free time I have my nose is planted in a cook book. I love to cook for family and friends, there is nothing more pleasing than cooking a meal that people enjoy while catching up. I teach Photography at a local high school, filling the hearts with those that are passionate enough with the art of Photography. I love where I live, in the wide open space in a little cottage, it has character, it has creaks and sometimes leaks, but it is home.

I have begun working with film again using a HOLGA camera. I LOVE the retro feel of images taken by my parents when I was younger, great contrast, little leaks of light, and the square format. The darkroom about to be a place I frequent again to embark on a term of photograms and pinholes. Using film and the inability to see instantly what you have taken keeps an excitement that has been lost through the digital age!

Gorgeous Winter Afternoon Light Part 2 | Sydney Child and Family Photographer

I have so many favourites from this session its hard to not load all of them! I love the family shots and how I have captured them interacting while I sat away, although little Miss A still curious as to where I was looking around for that lady that kept following her all afternoon. By the last few shots she was posing it up right in front of me, moving her head around like a professional! I hope you enjoy!

Lily’s modelling debut | Sydney Commercial Photographer

The second half of the cornflowerblue shoot saw many different lines of organic childrens clothing. This is where my little delight had her turn in front of the camera. She had patiently waited all day watching all of the bigger girls have their photos taken. And she did pretty well for her first fashion role. I was very proud! Enjoy the second post for cornflower blue and keep an eye out for this range to be for sale for summer.

Make Sure The Shoe Fits

Last week I bought a new pair of boots. You know the shoes that you must have, one size is too big the other a bit tight. The sales assistant is wearing the particular shoes you want and she says” They stretch heaps dont worry if they are a bit tight”. OK, seemingly happy with myself that I got the boots that “everyone” is now wearing, I wear them to my shoot last weekend. By the time I got home I could barely walk as they are SO tight around my foot. But hey they look good. So I have resorted to searching online for ways to stretch my shoes, I even rang the shop where I purchased them from to say hey, next time I think Ill buy my own size, she recommended stuffing them with wet paper, so I did. Now I have wet tight shoes.

Choosing your photographer is much like choosing the shoes. If they dont fit, they just dont fit. And you dont want to be making them fit as that time is better spent taking great shots. When choosing a photographer for your family to be photographed or your wedding, finding the right photographer whose style and personality “fits” you and your needs is imperative. What is different about photographers like  me, is when you book Skye Photography, you get ME. What is different about custom photographers is we spend the time with the client until we get the shots. We are not running on studio times and appointments. When you book a photographer you need to choose a person that you actually like and can get on with, nothing worse than spending your wedding day with a complete stranger and expect to feel natural and at ease with them. Which is why I always meet with brides and grooms before their wedding day, for a coffee, and for an engagement shoot. By the time the wedding comes around we are able to laugh and be at ease. All of my clients have commented on how relaxed they feel in front of my camera, and they can just be themselves.

I have many inquiries that lead to the question of pricing. I have had people say as walking past my stall at an expo ” I can take my own pictures”. In an age where everyone has a digital camera, and the quality of our happy snaps are improving, the professional photographer can be somewhat forgotten. But as another photographer once said to me “Just because you own a pen doesn’t make you a novelist”. An excellent explanation of why the custom photographer costs more is covered in this blog post by Adrea Blair : Why Choose Custom Photography? Adrea outlines the answer perfectly.

Choosing the right photographer allows for natural, comfortable images. Now back to stretching out those “must have” boots.

Cornflowerblue Shoot | Sydney Commercial Photographer

What a massive day I spent with the founder of cornflowerblue, her team and lots of little girls dressed in beautiful clothing. What is cornflowerblue about? When Sara began daydreaming of cornflowerblue after chatting with girlfriends in Mumbai about the lack of pretty, girlie clothes that are affordable and in the next breath… organic. This set Sarah off on an adventure, armed with the designs for her first collection, to find who made the most beautiful organic clothes in India. Sarah soon evolved the concept of cornflowerblue to include stocking other fabulous organic and fair labels from around the world.

The clothing is beautiful, to say the least. Each dress that came out in front of me was gorgeous, girly and the girls just loved it. They all had a great day, as did I and my little Lily got a look in and was photographed in my favourite colour….red! I was exhausted after the full day shooting, but I thoroughly LOVED it. We were able to do both in and outdoor photographs. The weather at the beach was a little unforgiving and probably one of the glariest, windiest days Ive ever experienced.

Hope you enjoy the preview, there are many more to come! These are my favs so far!

Gorgeous Winter Afternoon Light | Sydney Child and Family Photographer

Today we had a glorious winters day. After a frosty start the sun was out and it was actually quite mild. In the afternoon I had a shoot with Jo, who was in my year at school and her hubby Glenn and daughter Amelie, who wasn’t really a huge fan of me or my camera. Her favourite word to me was “no” but after a few chats about Makka Pakka hiding in the garden and some excellent jumping by Glenn, there were a few smiles. Yes my shoots supply the fathers with a boot camp like quality of keeping the children entertained. What can I say about the light. It was amazing, perfect. Jo is pregnant and I couldnt resist in getting a couple “belly” shots. Enjoy your sneak peek of your shoot, there are some very special photos of your family. There will be more to come in the next few days but I was so keen to share!! xx

Engagement Shoot and Family Portraits Part 2 | Sydney Lifestyle Photography

So many good photos to share from this session. Yesterday I was doing more research on photoshop styles and effects for school, and I fell upon this effect with the orange glow and adding grain. I simply love it and the aged kind of polaroid feel it gives to the photos. The sparkle in the water just shows what a beautiful day we had, no clouds and crystal clear water. I had been asking them to close their eyes from the glare and then open so they weren’t squinting, and saw how nice it actually looked standing there with their eyes shut! Hope you guys enjoy, such a lovely couple Pete and Ria, congratulations on your engagement, you are a gorgeous couple!!!!

Engagement Shoot and Family Portraits by the Sea: Part One | Sydney Lifestyle Photographer

Today I had so much fun photographing mainly Ria and Pete for an E-Shoot. Little Ria, the little sister of my great friend Bek, who I have known since she was a little girl. Well now grown up and totally breathtakingly gorgeous, Miss Ria is engaged to Pete. Both Pete and Ria were amazing for this shoot. Both casual and excellent infront of the camera. But that wasnt it. Step in Bek, for some very fun and serious posing and her Mum, for some family shots, a wonderful example of the bond between mother and daughters, the love and admiration between them was so evident.

The weather was perfect and we all had a ball together. Congratulations Pete and Ria on your engagement. Hope you enjoy the first lot of pics, I just couldnt wait to share, there will be more to come later!!!!

Christina blake - Oh my God, I am in tears...speechless.You are brilliant.Captured the moment, the love, the commitment, the emotions.Awsome.

Home Is Where The Heart Is | Sydney Child and Family Photographer

I first met Mel years ago working together at the Crown in Camden  in the kitchen. Our children were in the same swimming class a few years back, but I hadn’t seen her for about 2 years. I received an email from Mel saying how much she loved my work, and how much she wanted to eventually get photo’s done of her family. So when the time came she requested that we take the photos at her home, “As home is where the heart is” she said.

What a beautiful home it is too! Furnished beautifully, stylish, just like Mel!! The back of the house leads to a wonderful outdoor area with a huge deck and a large backyard which was beautifully green after the downpour of rain we have had. After some fun out the back, Mel had a secret location in mind, which had us all laughing our heads off, but hey, she was right it made for wonderful photos and the laughter between all of them was great. Hope you enjoy your sneak peek guys, the rest will be finished soon!

Jenny Bazley - These photos capture everything about these 3 beautiful people, even if they are my daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Beautifully professional and down to earth - would recommend your work to others.

An Afternoon In The Park Part 2 | Sydney Child and Family Photographer

The second part to the wonderful shoot I did a few weeks ago. An afternoon at Macarthur Park in Camden. It was a cloudy afternoon, and the rain held off, lucky it wasnt this weekend just gone!  Hope you all enjoy your slideshow!
