2011 Review…What an amazing year

What a year it has been for me and my business. I moved house at the beginning of the year, which I was nervous about, however Lily and I have found our niche back in civilisation and completely loving being close to almost everything. We had a visit from my sister from England and she brought with her her boyfriend who was able to experience a wonderfully warm August, infact it was warmer weather I think than what we are having now! I donned the front cover of a magazine!! This was a huge moment for me! And Jaimee and Ryan with their gorgeous wedding became the signature image of Skye Photography. Photographically, I have found myself. I have had some amazing brides and grooms, fun engagement shoots and my fair share of newborns wee and spew on me. All of which I have loved every second. I am continuing my journey with photography learning from anything and anyone who is willing to share. What is it I love about this job? ( and I use the word job ever so loosely as it doesnt feel like a “job”). I love the energy of weddings, the happiness, the love, the gorgeous little details. Newborn and family shoots are a different kind of love, the connection between families is always something special to be able to capture and make into everlasting images. But it is the words and happiness that comes when people first view their images. I have enjoyed every second, thankyou to all my wonderful clients for allowing me to be part of your special days and special moments that you will now cherish forever. A special thankyou to my Mum and Dad and my wonderful friends Bek and Sara, for continually encouraging and believing in me and making me strive for excellence in this field which I love. To all my Facebook followers and friends your kind words on all my posts really mean the world to me, and thankyou.

So here is my Body Of Work for 2011. I hope you enjoy, its always nice to go back and look at how much I have grown and remember all of the fun times I have had on location with awesome people. Thankyou again for being part of Skye Photography.

Sean And Gabby Engaged | Sydney and Southern Highlands Wedding Photographer

They met on a train 3 years ago. And throughout the obstacles of being on the other side of the world from each other, Sean and Gabby have endured the “Long Distance Relationship” and are now engaged. We had a wonderful afternoon getting to know each other in Sydney. Gabby did most of the talking and Sean was just happy to smile, simply at the fact his fiance was here by his side. Gabby has now gone home to the US, back to reality. Gabby skates for Disney on Ice, which I was going to see the day after their shoot!!!! Her facebook status today shows the dedication it must take with continual training…..but oh what a delight it is to watch Disney come to life. After seeing it with my daughter last weekend, I may even believe in a little magic! For now her life is a fairy tale……which next year this fairy tale will end for her to begin her own real life fairy tale with Sean. Be sure to watch the slideshow at the bottom of the post.

I met Lara at the Wedding Expo at Eschol Park House earlier this year. I was so happy that she liked my work and that she was the lucky winner of a free album in the competition I ran that day. We held her engagement shoot at the location of her Wedding as to get to know the surrounds. I am looking forward to the wedding in the new year which will give a different feel to that autumn colours from this shoot, and hopefully a lush green summer setting!! Sally and Brett : Part Two | Southern Highlands Wedding Photographer

After part one of this shoot was completed, Brett and Sally went off to get changed. They were gone for ages. I had some idea of what to expect, but really once they finally stepped out I was in a fit of giggles. Brett just totally rocked the look, with complete attitude. I was laughing so hard at the beginning that tears were flooding my eyes and I couldn’t see through the view finder! I love every facet of this part of the shoot….be sure to watch the slideshow at the end!

Getting to know Sally has been amazing. One of her emails was ended with a concern she was telling me too much and ranting and raving. However, I have loved it. Sally would have to be the most free spirited, creative person I have ever met. She has travelled the world on a whim, worked many creative jobs, and next to her…..Brett…. I always say how my couples complete each other. This could not be more true than for this couple. This shoot was a scream, and has to be completed in two parts. So much preparation went into the day by Sally. She lives and breathes vintage, even though its all the trend now for a styled vintage wedding, it is something Sally is into all of the time. Don’t ask her how many teapots she has!!!! With all her cookiness, Brett just adores her and loves it, and goes along with it….and you know what…he DOES enjoy it too. Just wait for part two and youll see what I mean. But for now, part one. A gorgeous setting if I do say so myself out at The Woodlands in all its glory in autumn colour.

Drew and Siobhan ENGAGED | Sydney and Southern Highlands Wedding Photographer

I have known Drew for many years, since school. Drew is also my very talented Graphic Designer, having created my new logo which I just adore! He and Siobhan have been together for years, and in a few months will be setting a stunning vintage scene for their friends and family to gather to witness them pledging their love for one and other. After my day with them, they seriously have to be the most relaxed couple there is. And they move together like clockwork, they have it nailed getting that boat an AND out of the water whilst we watched others struggle. We were SO lucky with the weather being able to get some shots on the shore line, and then into the boat. I have little boating experience. So my first Sydney Harbour experience I was armed with my camera (which I held onto VERY tightly and we sped along) and I wasnt sure whether to scream, shriek or hide under the dashboard. (if thats what its called??). Once we stopped, it seemed that buoyancy was to become my challenge for this part of the shoot, with the Harbour Bridge in the distance, it would disappear with the bobbing of the boat. And the bobbing wasnt doing wonders for the stomach either! The end result was some cool pics on the water, before getting rained out!!!!! Danny and Lisa ENGAGED! | Illawarra and Southern Highlands Lifestyle Photographer

Lisa contacted me a while ago about her wedding photography. We began chatting on facebook and one night she asks ” You dont remember me do you?”. MANY years ago, I taught Lisa, not only photography, but also Dance. (how well I taught dance is questionable, but I do remember having ALOT of fun with this class). When we met up to chat about her wants for the wedding I knew we’d get on, she is just like me, a planner. Armed with a book, filled with cut outs of examples Lisa was on her way to planning her magical day with attention to each and every detail.

Our session at North Wollongong was gorgeous. Our original session was rained out and we were all happy to have been blessed with perfect weather last weekend. Ben and Annabel | Sydney Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

They met at a wedding of a mutual friend and hit it off. What followed for the next year was a lot of travel. Annabel comes from Bourke and Ben is in Sydney. But that wasnt the least of it. Annabel had planned a trip overseas which meant that soon into the relationship she travelled. So Ben followed. And proposed, and they came back to Australia engaged. Annabel has moved from Bourke just days before I met her and her fiance Ben for their engagement shoot. The rain held of for us for the afternoon as we strolled along the shore and then for more formal shots in the old stables. Hope you enjoy your pics guys, and I am so looking forward to their wedding upon the water next year!!!

Ryan and Jaimee | Southern Highlands Photographer

Last weekend I finally got to meet this gorgeous couple. I have been communicating with Jaimee for months now via email so it was so good to finally put a face to the name! After a week of cool weather and rain, the sun emerged, and we had a steamy day in Bowral for their engagement shoot. We started off in a park with their dogs, which was fun, I forgot what its like with a massive dog that just wants to play. Then to an underpass where Jaimee and Ryan were a bit more relaxed infront of the camera. Here are some of my favourites from the day.
